10 Central Coast Weekend or Holiday activities for kids

Taking the kids or grandkids out for the school holidays and weekends is lots of fun, but can prove a challenge with finding new and exciting things to do each time to keep them entertained. Here below is a list of our top 10 things to do with kids over the school holidays, in order from the cheapest to most costly. Next time you find yourself stumped on where to take the kids, keep this list handy and your problem will be solved!

Pelican feeding – THE ENTRANCE

Cost: FREE!

Pelican feeding takes place daily at The Entrance foreshore at 3.30pm, which makes it a great time to wander down after lunch on the beach! Grab the kids an ice cream and watch them take the playgrounds by storm before seeing these huge pelicans swoop into shore for their daily feed.

Vera’s water garden – THE ENTRANCE

Cost: FREE!

This free activity proves very popular with young and old! Kids running, playing in splashing in the free waterpark is a great way to tire them out and get them active and playing in the sun. The statues are colourful and vibrant and spurt fountains of water making it the perfect replacement for running through the backyard sprinklers on a hot day.

Avoca beachside markets – AVOCA

Cost: FREE!

Avoca beachside markets is a great day out for the whole family. There is a showcase of local talent on stage, as well as some children craft workshops. It is totally free and is a great way to get immersed in the community. There are food vans to grab a bite and over 120 stalls to see! This market is only on once a month so be sure to check your dates before going.

Fur & Feathers rescue farm – MANDALONG

Cost: $10 per person (family packages available)

Fur & Feathers rescue farm is a fantastic activity for the school holidays. This place is not your regular petting zoo! All the animals at this park have been rescued, and are up for adoption which proves it is a great ethical local business and they really focus on the welfare of the animals here. There is a tractor ride, a tour and a reptile show included in the price as well as pony rides & feeding. Their shining Facebook reviews say it all!

Flipout Indoor Trampolines – GOSFORD

Cost: time dependant – starting from $10

Flipout is a fantastic day out for the kids! This indoor trampoline area has a main area, two foam pits, a wall runner, an under 10’s area, dodgeball, ‘after dark’ flipout, and a little ninja program. Take the kids here, let them run wild while you have a coffee at the cafe on the mezzanine level and watch them bounce their little hearts out!

Aquasplash Inflatable Water park – Gosford Waterfront

Cost: (5-9yrs)$15

           (10+yrs) $20

All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Aquasplash is one of two inflatable water parks in Australia, with the other located on the Gold Coast! This gem of a place is open 7 days a week from 9-7pm. The price includes an hour on the course (can also purchase a 2hr pass), life jackets & induction training. Grab yourself a fish & chips from Monty’s across the road and watch the kids splash about!


Cost: $18 (over 6yrs)

Clip ’n’ Climb is located in the Central Coast Leagues Club in Gosford and is a fantastic option for kids parties or school holiday activities. Clip ’n’ Climb has multiple climbing courses in varying degrees of difficulty, making it a great activity for kids of different ages and abilities. It’s a great activity for adults to get involved in too!

Australian Reptile Park –  SOMERSBY

Cost: (3-15yrs) $19

          (Adults) $37

Concessions and family passes available.

Visit Ploddy the dinosaur’s home and learn about reptiles and Australian wildlife! You can buy some feed and spend some time making friends with the free roaming kangaroos, which is a fantastic hands-on experience. Here you can spot koala’s and their babies nestled in the trees, or go into the owl cave and marvel at the nocturnal creatures! There are daily shows including funnel-web spider milking, Galapagos tortoise feeding, Dingo walks, Reptile shows, alligator, python and koala photos, Tortoise walks, Koala feeding, Crocodile feeding – the list goes on! Marvel at the the wonder of these creatures, grab some lunch, learn a few things and you have got yourself a fantastic day out!

Treetops adventure park – OURIMBAH STATE FOREST

Cost: (3-9yrs) $28

          (10-17yrs) $38

Concessions and family passes available for discounted rates.

Zip through the gumtrees in Ourimbah state forest and experience the wildlife like never before! Get up close and personal with nature as you navigate over 100 elevated obstacle courses and zip lines. There is something here for everyone! The sessions run for two hours and include a guide. If you have a fear of heights – you can spectate nearby and watch the kids have the time of their lives! Adult prices available also if you want the entire family involved!

Glenworth Valley outdoor Adventures – GLENWORTH VALLEY

Cost: Varies by activity

This place would be perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway! With accommodation on site, it would be a perfect mini holiday for a family visiting from Sydney. Glenworth Valley has many activities ranging from Horse riding, tennis, quad-biking, archery, abseiling, kayaking, laser skirmish, and even camping!! It is a ideal location for weddings and events also, with restaurants and wine bars on site, its the perfect getaway for adults while the kids have a blast as well.
